Traubel's Popcorn celebrated ten years of being on Fifth Street in downtown Beatrice with the community on Thursday evening.

The stand is a replica of the historic popcorn booth that stood directly across the street. It was owned by John and Stella Traubel, and was open from 1937 to 1987.

Many residents and people who grew up in Beatrice have fond memories of buying the town's best popcorn from Ruth Gustafson, the “Popcorn Lady.”

Community Possibilities, a nonprofit organization, opened the current stand in May 2014. Volunteers operate the stand, and the profits are donated back to the community.

Treasurer Kathie Menke said they have board members and volunteers that operate the stand during open hours on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. each week. “We have six board members and maybe six other volunteers that help operate the popcorn stand,” she said.
