The Arrowhead Inn, a former bar and beer store in Whiteclay, has been purchased by the Whiteclay Makerspace nonprofit to be renovated for the good of the community, according to a release from the group.
In April 2017, the town just south of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation had its liquor stores shut down after it was found they sold, collectively, almost 4 million cans of beer per year and fueled alcoholism, homelessness and crime in the area.
The nonprofit hopes to rejuvenate the Whiteclay area by providing career and income stability for local artists and creators. The building will provide supplies, studio space and market opportunities.
