Where is today’s “creative class?”

A decade ago, sociologist Richard Florida described a “creative class” of knowledge workers and intellectuals. Wherever this group lands, the economy tends to thrive, according to Florida. Most people think of the creative class residing in a hip metropolis like Seattle or Brooklyn. Increasingly, however, they’re heading for the country.
Here in Gage County, Nebraska, we’ve got our own version of the creative class, fueled by the nearby University of Nebraska in Lincoln, and four other private colleges plus Southeast Community College in Beatrice, Lincoln and Milford.
