Gage County Celebrates Manufacturing Month with Visit from Gov. Ricketts
Tuesday, October 01, 2019
Gage County is home to global manufacturing operations that are producing products using the latest technologies and innovative processes. We at NGage celebrate these companies and their innovative spirit during Nebraska’s Manufacturing Month.
Gov. Ricketts Is Coming to Beatrice
Governor Pete Ricketts kicks off manufacturing month by speaking at businesses throughout the state – one of them in Gage County. Gov. Ricketts, joined by representatives from the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce and industry leaders, will be in Beatrice at Precise Fabrication, a division of Kinney Manufacturing, on October 3rd.
Growth in Nebraska’s Manufacturing Sector
The manufacturing sector is stable and growing. In fact, manufacturing is one of Nebraska’s most important industries, contributing over $13 billion to the Gross State Product annually. According to the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), Nebraska’s manufacturing exports increased by more than 40% from 2010 to 2018, rising to a total of $6.48 billion.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Nebraska’s manufacturing sector experienced more than 10 percent job growth between December 2009 and July 2019. The National Association of Manufacturers reports that the average annual compensation for Nebraska manufacturing jobs exceeded $62,500 in 2017.
“Manufacturing is the state’s second-largest industry. We’ve made investments to connect Nebraskans with the skills needed to excel in great manufacturing opportunities. We’ve also worked hard to lower costs and cut red tape so that manufacturers can easily set up shop and create jobs in Nebraska. These steps have already increased manufacturing in our state, and there’s incredible potential to grow Nebraska manufacturing even more,” said Gov. Ricketts.
Reasons Companies Should Look to Beatrice and Gage County
Beatrice offers several advantages to national and global manufacturing companies. Among them, the opportunity to be among peers. The manufacturing ecosystem in Gage County is strong and this lends itself to a level of support that is not always afforded by smaller communities.
Gage County benefits from convenient transportation access. By road or rail, it is easy to reach the entire United States and Canadian markets. This ease of transportation can lower costs and cut down on delivery times to the end user.
Space is available for companies looking to expand, and in certain cases, financial incentives can be applied to make the move an even better investment.
At the state level, the Developing Youth Talent Initiative (DYTI) is also being used to promote manufacturing career awareness among Nebraska youth. That program, administered by the Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED), has introduced over 7,000 seventh and eighth graders to manufacturing careers and concepts, helping to develop a steady pool of talent for manufacturing companies to hire from.
