Scheele Turkey Operation Groundbreaking
Thursday, August 03, 2017
After a year of research and planning for a turkey breeding operation, Tim and Jill Scheele broke ground today along 89th Road in southern Gage County. The Scheele’s are working with Hybrid Turkeys, a subsidiary of Hendrix Genetics, to become a producer of grandparent turkey eggs. “Turkey Run Farms” will be an egg laying enterprise and will have five full time people manage and operate the facility. Tim and Jill, along with their sons, nearby family, and hired hands, will be involved in day to day operations.
Frank Henderson, GP Technical Specialist for Hybrid Turkeys, shared that Turkey Run Farms will be one of four production facilities of its size to raise turkey eggs for the hatchery in the Gage County Industrial Park. The eggs will be delivered to Beatrice once per week.
Midwest Livestock out of Beatrice will serve as the primary building contractor. Ben Harris and Steve Hays with Midwest Livestock have worked with Hybrid Turkeys in planning and design of the bio-secure facility. Plans include a tom barn and a brood grow barn with attached shower facilities and two lay barns with attached shower facilities. Midwest Livestock will work with area sub-contractors on the facility.
NGage and county officials welcome the new investment in Gage County. Construction of Turkey Run Farms is expected to be completed by the end of 2017.
