Plentiful energy at lower cost

Nebraska’s energy costs are among the lowest in the Nation. Nebraska is the only state in the nation where all electric utilities are publicly owned, electric costs are passed to consumers at low, cost of service rates This results in Nebraska’s industrial rate being below the national average. Electric utilities are able to offered at low rates, because they pull from a steady and effective mixture of generation resources. This includes coal, natural gas, oil, diesel, and methane along with nuclear power, wind power, and hydropower. The Nebraska Public Power District is the wholesale supplier of electric to the City of Beatrice and to Norris Public Power who provides electric service to rural Gage County.

Natural gas is abundant in the Beatrice and surrounding area. There are two terminal stations close to Beatrice including Northern Natural Gas, the transmission provider for Black Hills Energy.
