Farm life has had a lasting appeal in the public imagination: Rolling fields, bucolic landscapes, cows in the meadow… But this idealized image leaves out an important fact. Farming has always been based on a combination of experience and highly sophisticated research. Those of us in the heartland can attest that every acre of corn out here is planted in a depth of painstakingly collected scientific data.
In Gage County, Nebraska, we’re pretty much in the heart of the heartland. And that also puts us in the epicenter of agricultural R+D. A variety of public- and private-sector entities work closely with our farmers to improve our nation’s crops—and to feed the world.
