Want to have healthy kids? Get them active
Monday, July 20, 2015
When it comes to healthy lifestyles, there’s no such thing as too young. Numerous studies have shown that kids who lead active lives do better in school and grow up to be healthier adults. (See, for example, the President’s council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition: http://ow.ly/Bz46t.) Luckily, it’s not hard to get kids active! We’re not talking a grueling regimen of jogging and weight lifting: just simple, fun, everyday kid’s stuff, like baseball, swimming, or riding a bike.
That’s why it’s more important than ever for municipalities to invest in the kind of infrastructure that encourages a healthy lifestyle. Doesn’t have to be a big fancy sports arena—but facilities like water parks, swimming pools, and baseball diamonds are critical.
Here in Gage County, Nebraska, there are great sports and water venues, including the Big Blue Water Park in Beatrice, and the Aquatic Center in Wymore. Beatrice is home to a modern YMCA facility with a new Prairie Playground outside along with soccer and baseball fields. City parks are plentiful and well kept throughout the county with multiple and popular sports complexes in various communities. Check it out: http://ow.ly/BvQcf
